passport, insurance, money etc.

You will need to bring a valid certificate of citizenship (passport) and you will need to get auto insurance before crossing the border. Your US car insurance is not valid in Mexico.

Mexico Entry Requirements:
The Government of Mexico requires that all U.S. citizens present proof of citizenship and photo identification for entry into Mexico. A U.S. passport is recommended, but other U.S. citizenship documents such as a certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate, a Naturalization Certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Citizenship are acceptable.

USA Entry Requirements:
Driver's permits, voter registration cards, affidavits and similar documents are not sufficient to prove citizenship for readmission into the United States - you will have to carry a passport.

Why Get Mexican Auto Insurance?
• Auto insurance from a Mexican company is required by Mexican law in the event of an accident, even if you are not at fault
• Insurance greatly reduces the chances that you will face jail time, and limits the financial burden you might come by after an accident
• Insurance provides coverage for damage to your vehicle or its total loss.

How To Get Mexican Auto Insurance:
You can get easily online insurance for Mexico - in case you forgot to make arrangements from home, you can still buy insurance at the border (slightly more expensive at a round $15 per day).

If you decided to use one of my vehicles, the insurance fees are included in your trip fees.

How To Get aTourist Card:
You should stop right after the border crossing and get the paperwork from border officials. The fee is currently 200 pesos (about $23.00). Mexican government officials are not permitted to collect fees directly, so the fee must be paid to a Mexican bank.

I found a better way for us: The airport in San Felipe has an immigration department. Since they have only a handful of non-commercial flights a day, they are not busy at all. Not to say they sit around all day. Main plus: they handle the fees right there. No bank hassle. No waiting. Wonderful.
The tourist card fee is included in your trip fees.
For our trips starting in La Paz: Since most of you fly in, you will get a tourist card from the airline (free of charge).

What money to carry:
The Dollar is widely accepted in Baja. There is no real need to carry Pesos - but if it makes you feel better, you should get some Pesos for little expenses that might occur.. Exchange rate Dollar to Peso is about 1:10.
You can exchange money before we cross the border if you like. When paying for something in Baja with Dollars you will most likely get change back in Pesos.
