During the trips early in the year we will see whales for sure. During fall and winter tours it is less likely that we'll have a chance to see them. Chances increase around year's end.
The grey whales of the Pacific Ocean have benn traveling to the warm lagunes of Baja california for thousands of years. In December the first groups of whales arrive from the cold waters in Alaska after a long trip at one of the three major whale sites. They travel back around April.
We will hire a boat close to Guerrero Negro and sail out into Ojo de Liebre to see the whales in their natural habitat. It is one of the best locations for whale watching. 2006 was a very good season for whale watching. See yourself.
During our upcoming Scout-South tripin December 2006 we might be able to see whales at Laguna San Ignacio.
In case the wind is not blowing too hard, unfortunately that's very common along the Baja coast, we could hire a panga to go out into one of Baja's most beautiful bays, Bahia de los Angeles. Bay of the Angels. Occasionally we see, aside from sea lions, whale sharks and blue whales. Pangas are small and fast boats used by the local fishermen. They are open, nimble and very seaworthy.
