oDay 1 - Saturday

Los Angeles - Mexicali - San Felipe (320 miles)

We will mee at a still to be determined location in or around Palm Springs. We'll caravan south towards the border and cross at Calexico/Mexicali. Some paperwork will need to be completed to obtain valid Tourist Cards.

After completing the paperwork we'll leave the city heading west on MEX2 for a few miles. Weather permitting we'll head south traversing Laguna Salada, a 70 mile long dry lake.

In case the dry lake is wet (you never know) we will have to take MEX5 heading directly south towards San Felipe. On our way we will have a chance to visit a unique store, decorated as a Corona sixpack.

Past Laguna Salada we'll be crossing a bizarre mountain range and drive the last 30 miles through wide open desert. Visible in the distance is Picacho del Diablo, Baja's highest mountain - rising 10,126 ft straight out of the sealevel desert. Pretty impressive!

A comfortable beach hotel in San Felipe will be our home for the night. I'll buy you dinner at El Nido, San Felipe's best place for food.
